Camshaft, Removing And Installing: Removing

Left camshaft gear

-- Evacuate the refrigerant in the A/C system. Refer to REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT .

-- Disconnect the refrigerant line -arrow- for the A/C system. Seal the open lines with suitable plugs.

-- Remove the vacuum pump.

Right camshaft gear:

-- Remove the high pressure pump and high pressure pump motor housing. Refer to HIGH PRESSURE PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Left and right camshafts:

-- Remove the camshaft adjuster. Refer to CAMSHAFT ADJUSTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the bolt -arrow- and remove the Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N205- / Camshaft Adjustment Valve 2 -N208-.

-- Disconnect the connector -1- from the Camshaft Position Sensor -G40- / Camshaft Position Sensor 2 -G163-.

NOTE:

Ignore -arrow-.

-- Remove the ground cable bolt -2-.

NOTE:

Ignore -1-.

-- Free up the vacuum hose -1- on cylinder bank 2 (left).

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the cover -2-.

-- Loosen the guide frame bolts in the following sequence: -21 through 1-.

NOTE:

The right guide frame is a mirror image.

-- Remove the bolts, carefully loosen the guide from out of the bond and place it with the camshafts on a soft surface.

-- Remove the Camshaft Clamp:T40133 -arrows-.

-- Mark the camshafts, remove them and lay them on a clean surface.
