Camshaft Adjuster, Installing, Cylinder Bank 2 (Left)

NOTE:

Replace the bolts that were tightened with an additional turn.

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging valves and piston crowns.

  • If camshafts are rotated, crankshaft may not rest with any piston at "TDC".

-- Place the timing chain on the camshaft adjuster -A- and place the camshaft adjuster on the camshaft. Pay attention to the following:

-- Insert the camshaft chain sprocket into the timing chain and place the camshaft chain sprocket on the camshaft. Pay attention to the following:

-- Install the bolts -1 and 2- loosely. The camshaft adjuster and the camshaft chain sprocket must be able to still be rotated on camshaft and must not tip.

-- Press the chain tensioner guide rail for the right camshaft timing chain inward all the way using a screwdriver -1- and remove the Locking Pin:T40071  .

-- Position the Wrench - Pin Type:3036  on the camshaft adjuster.

-- Press the Wrench - Pin Type:3036  in the direction of -arrow- and check if the timing chain is lying >>taut<< against the guide rail -A-. If the timing chain is still >>loose<<, the camshaft chain sprocket must be offset by one tooth.

-- Have a second technician hold the camshaft timing chain at pre-load using the Wrench - Pin Type:3036  in the direction of -arrow-.

-- Tighten the bolts as follows while the camshaft adjuster is still held under pretension.

  1. Tighten the Bolt for the Intake Camshaft to 80 Nm
  2. Tighten the Bolt for the Exhaust Camshaft to 80 Nm

-- Tighten the bolts to the final tightening specification. To do so, counterhold using the Wrench - Pin Type:3036  or the Wrench - Pin Type:3212  .

  1. Turn the Bolt for the Intake Camshaft an Additional 90° Turn. While Doing So, Counterhold with the Wrench - Pin Type:3036 
  2. Turn the Bolt for the Exhaust Camshaft an Additional 90° Turn. While Doing so, Counterhold with the Wrench - Pin Type:3212
