Cylinder Head, Removing And Installing: Removing:: Notes

NOTE:

The following describes the simultaneous removal of both cylinder heads.

Only one cylinder head may also be removed. To do so, refer to the relevant instructions in the following description.

During installation, all cable ties must be installed at the same location.

Cylinder heads with cracks between the valve seats, or between the valve seat and the spark plug threads, can continue to be used without reducing the service life, as long as the cracks have a width of max. 0.3 mm, or only the first 4 threads of the spark plug threads are cracked.

WARNING:

Hybrid vehicles have a high voltage system! Danger of electrical shock! When performing the following work, it is also necessary to work on the high voltage system. De-energize the high voltage system now. Refer to appropriate service information. .

-- Remove the upper coolant pipe. Refer to UPPER COOLANT PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the front coolant pipe. Refer to FRONT COOLANT PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the catalytic converter: left. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, LEFT (BANK 2) , and right CATALYTIC CONVERTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, RIGHT (BANK 1) .

-- Remove the compressor. Refer to SUPERCHARGER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Only for the left cylinder head: extract the A/C system refrigerant. Refer to REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT .

-- Only for the left cylinder head: disconnect the refrigerant line -arrow- for the A/C system. Seal the open lines with suitable plugs.

NOTE:

Ignore -4-.

-- Disconnect the left and right connectors -1, 2 and 3- from the fuel injectors.

-- Remove the camshaft adjuster and the camshaft chain sprocket. Refer to CAMSHAFT ADJUSTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the Locking Pin:T40071 from the left cylinder head.

-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2- and then remove the chain tensioner on the right cylinder head.

NOTE:

The Locking Pin:T40071 remains inserted.

-- Remove the ground cable bolt -2-.

-- Disconnect the connectors from the left cylinder head:

3 - For Camshaft Adjustment Valve 2 -N208-

-- Move the electrical wiring harness to the side.

NOTE:

Ignore -2- and -arrows-.

-- Disconnect the connector -2-.

-- Remove the ground cable bolt -1-.

-- Disconnect the connectors from the right cylinder head:

Camshaft Position Sensor -G40-

-- Move the electrical wiring harness to the side.

NOTE:

Ignore the -arrows-.

-- Remove the screw -arrow- and remove the oil dipstick and guide tube.

-- Open the clamp -1- and remove the vacuum hose from the vacuum pump.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- on the rear of the cylinder head.

Right cylinder head: 4 bolts
