Drive Chain Balance Shaft, Removing And Installing: Removing

Engine removed. Refer to ENGINE, REMOVING .
Engine and electro-drive drive motor separated. Refer to ENGINE AND ELECTRO-DRIVE DRIVE MOTOR WITH TRANSMISSION, SEPARATING AND CONNECTING .

-- Remove the lower timing chain cover. Refer to LOWER TIMING CHAIN COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

CAUTION:

Danger of damaging the drive chain because the bolt thread is too long.

Only use bolts with a thread length -a- of maximum 22 mm to attach the Crankshaft Key:T40049 .
If only longer bolts are available, then the bolt head must be installed in such a way so that thread length is still only 22 mm.

-- Install the Crankshaft Key:T40049 with two bolts -arrows- on the back of the crankshaft.

-- Remove the locking bolt -arrow- for the "TDC" marking crankshaft from the cylinder block.

-- Rotate the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation -arrow- to "TDC" using the Crankshaft Socket:T40058 and wrench.

The notch -A- must align with the joint -arrow-.

-- Install the Crankshaft Locking Pin:T40069 in the hole and tighten to 20 Nm. Rotate the crankshaft -1- back and forth slightly to center the pin completely, if necessary.

-- Press the chain tensioner guide rail in direction of -arrow- and secure chain tensioner using a Locking Pin:T40071 .

CAUTION:

Risk of destroying due to reversed running direction on a used drive chain.

Mark the drive chain running direction with arrows using paint for installation later. Do not mark the drive chain with a punch, notch or something similar.

-- Remove the bolts -3- and the balance shaft chain sprocket.

-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2- and the chain tensioner with the chain.
