Camshaft Adjuster, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Remove the intake manifold upper section. Refer to INTAKE MANIFOLD UPPER SECTION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the wiper arms. Refer to WINDSHIELD WIPER SYSTEM .

-- Remove the plenum chamber cover. Refer to PLENUM CHAMBER BULKHEAD .

-- Remove the center plenum chamber bulkhead. Refer to PLENUM CHAMBER BULKHEAD .

-- Remove the cylinder head cover. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Unclip wiring harness -1-, unscrew bolts -2 and 3- and remove the engine lifting eyelet.

-- Disconnect the following connectors:

1. Camshaft Position Sensor -G40-
2. Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N205-
3. Camshaft Position Sensor 2 -G163-
4. Exhaust Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N318-

-- Remove the mechanical vacuum pump. Refer to MECHANICAL VACUUM PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the nut -A- and bolts -arrows-.

-- Remove the retaining bolts -arrows- from the cover and pry off the cover.

-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION .

-- Turn the crankshaft from below using the :T10172  in the direction of engine rotation to the TDC mark on cylinder 1.

Cams -A- of cylinder 1 must face each other.

-- Unscrew the exhaust-side camshaft adjuster bolt approximately one turn while counter-holding on the camshaft wrench surface with an open end wrench.

-- Unscrew the intake-side camshaft adjuster bolt approx. 1 turn while counter-holding on the camshaft wrench surface with an open end wrench.

-- Insert the : T10068A  in both shaft grooves. If necessary, slightly turn the camshaft back and forth using an open-end wrench.

-- Secure the high pressure pump drive chain sprocket position with the :T10363  . The marking -A- on the on high pressure drive cams must be at the top.

-- Remove chain tensioner for camshaft timing chain -arrow-.

-- Label the chain links opposite the markings on the camshaft adjusters. The labeling of the camshaft timing chain simplifies installation.

-- Completely unscrew the camshaft adjuster retaining bolts and remove the camshaft adjuster.
