Crankshaft, Measuring Radial Clearance: Procedure

NOTE:

Mark the used bearings for installation later, but not on the running surface.

If the bearing shells are worn down to the base layer, they must be replaced.

For assembly work, secure the engine on the Engine and Gearbox Bracket:VAS6095A . Refer to ENGINE, SECURING TO Engine and Gearbox Bracket .

-- Remove the guide frame and clean the bearing journals.

-- Place the Plastigage^® over entire width of bearing journal or into the bearing shells.

Plastigage^® must rest in center of bearing shell.

-- Install the guide frame and tighten to 50 Nm. Do not turn crankshaft.

-- Install the guide frame.

-- Compare the width of Plastigage^® with the measuring scale.
