Knee Airbag, Removing And Installing: Removing

WARNING:

Always read the General Safety Precautions before working on airbags, belt tensioners and battery cut-out units (pyrotechnical components). Refer to AIRBAG, BELT TENSIONER AND BATTERY CUT-OUT UNITS, GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .

-- Switch the ignition on.

-- Disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY .

-- Remove the side instrument panel cover on the driver side. Refer to SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL COVERS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the instrument panel left trim on the driver side. Refer to DRIVER SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL LEFT TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the footwell cover on the driver side. Refer to FOOTWELL COVERS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the instrument panel right trim on the driver side. Refer to DRIVER SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL RIGHT TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the 2 nuts -1- (6 Nm ).

-- Remove the nuts -2- and -3- (6 Nm ).

NOTE:

The nuts -2- and -3- are installed in the direction of travel at the front at the knee airbag.

-- Remove the knee airbag -4- from the bracket -5-.

WARNING:

Electrostatic discharges can lead to unintended deployment of the airbag. Therefore the technician must discharge static electricity from the body before separating the ignition and ground wiring. This is done, for example, by briefly grasping the chassis or door striker.

-- Disconnect the harness connector from the knee airbag.

NOTE:

The harness connector is at the front on the tunnel side in the direction of travel.
