Head Curtain Airbag, Removing And Installing: Removing
- Follow the General Safety Precautions when working with airbags, belt tensioners and battery cut-out units (pyrotechnic components). Refer to AIRBAG, BELT TENSIONER AND BATTERY CUT-OUT UNITS, GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
- Follow the special information regarding head curtain airbag modules. Refer to SIDE AIRBAG MODULE SPECIAL INFORMATION .
-- Remove the headliner. Refer to HEADLINER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Switch the ignition on.
-- Disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY .
Electrostatic discharges can lead to unintended deployment of the airbag. Therefore the technician must discharge static electricity from the body before separating the ignition and ground wiring. This is done, for example, by briefly grasping the chassis or door striker.
-- Unlock and disconnect the connector from the head curtain airbag.
-- Place straight O-ring pliers in both openings of the clip -1-. Press together the pliers and carefully remove the clip with the tensioning band from the mount.
-- Remove the remaining clips from the mounts as described.
Start unclipping at the A-pillar and continue in the direction of the D-pillar.
If one of the 8 clips is damaged during removal, the head curtain airbag must be replaced!
-- Remove the cap nuts -3- (9 Nm ).
-- Remove the head curtain airbag -2- from the vehicle through the rear lid.
