Overview - Cylinder Head
NOTE:
The illustration shows the cylinder bank 2 cylinder head (left).
- Cylinder Head Gasket
- Replacing. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Installed position: the part number faces the cylinder head
- Change the coolant and engine oil after replacing
- Cylinder Head
- Removing and installing. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Check for distortion. Refer to Fig 5
- Reworking dimension. Refer to Fig 6
- Change the coolant and engine oil after replacing

- Tightening specification. Refer to OVERVIEW - VACUUM PUMP .
- Vacuum Pump
- Removing and installing. Refer to VACUUM PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- O-Ring
- Replace
- Camshaft Position Sensor
- Cylinder bank 1 (right) Camshaft Position Sensor -G40-
- Cylinder bank 2 (left) Camshaft Position Sensor 2 -G163-
- Bolt
- Tightening specification. Refer to IGNITION SYSTEM (As Or 02.2015)

- Replace
- As a running change, the Polydrive bolt heads were replaced with internal multi-point bolts.
- Follow the sequence when loosening. Refer to LOOSEN THE CYLINDER HEAD BOLTS IN THE SEQUENCE .
- Tightening specification and sequence. Refer to the appropriate Cylinder Head Service Information.
- Ignition Coil
- Removing and installing. Refer to IGNITION COILS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Cylinder Head Cover
- Removing and installing. Refer to LEFT CYLINDER HEAD COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING for left side and RIGHT CYLINDER HEAD COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING for right side.
- Seal
- Replace if damaged or leaking
- Cap
- Bolt
- Replace if the seal is damaged
- Tightening specification and sequence. Refer to LEFT CYLINDER HEAD COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING , or RIGHT CYLINDER HEAD COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

- Tightening specification. Refer to IGNITION SYSTEM
- Connector Strip
- For the ignition coils
- Cylinder Head Cover Gasket
- Replace if damaged or leaking
- Camshaft Adjustment Solenoid Valve
- Cylinder bank 1 (right) Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N205-
- Cylinder bank 2 (left) Camshaft Adjustment Valve 2 -N208-
- Bolt
- 5 Nm
- O-Ring
- Replace
-- Tighten the bolts to 9 Nm in the following sequence: -1 to 12-.
-- Tighten the bolts to 9 Nm in the following sequence: -1 to 12-.
NOTE:
Replace the bolts that were tightened with an additional turn.
-- Tighten the bolts in four steps in the sequence shown.

-- Check the cylinder head at several locations for distortion using a Straight Edge - 500mm VAS6075 and a feeler gauge.
- Maximum permitted distortion: 0.05 mm.
Resurfacing cylinder head (face grinding) is only permissible to minimum dimension -a-.
- Minimum dimension -a- = 139.20 mm.
-- Tighten the bolt -arrow- to 9 Nm.
