Function Description

The vehicle electrical system control module -J519- reads the position of the headlamp switch -E1-.

Type Switch-On Condition Note
AUTO, automatic light   Not in standard production; available only when the vehicle has a rain/light recognition sensor -G397-.
Parking lamp (USA: sidemarker)
  • Headlamp switch -E1- set to parking lamp
  • Ignition is turned off, and the headlamp switch is set to low beam
  • Terminal 15 OFF, the headlamp switch is set to AUTO, and the rain/light recognition sensor reports darkness
 USA vehicles with Halogen headlamps: there are no bulbs for the daytime running lamps and the parking lamps. The bulbs for the side marker lamps are controlled installed. USA vehicles with Xenon headlamps: the bulbs for the left and right side marker lamps are controlled as well as the LED modules for the daytime running lamps and the parking lamps. In the back of USA vehicles, the bulbs for the rear side marker lamps are also controlled.
Low beam
  • The ignition is turned on
  • The headlamp switch is set to low beam
  
Daytime running lamp
  • Terminal 15 is on
  • The headlamp switch is set to 0 or AUTO
 The daytime running lamps must be coded in the vehicle electrical system control module. The daytime running lamps can be coded regardless of the type of headlamp. The function of the tail lamps is coded regardless of the type of headlamps. The driver can also switch the daytime running lamps on or off in the Car menu depending on the coding in the vehicle electrical system control module.
High beam, static (with rain/light recognition sensor)
  • Terminal 15 on
  • The headlamp switch set to AUTO
  • The rain/light recognition sensor reports darkness
  • The low beams on
  • The turn signal switch to high beam
 The high beam is either a single bulb or a moveable flap inside the headlamp.
High beam, static (without rain/light recognition sensor)
  • Terminal 15 on
  • The headlamp switch set to low beam
  • The turn signal switch on high beam
 The high beam is either a single bulb or a moveable flap inside the headlamp.
High beam, flasher   Turn signal switch set to flasher
Fog lamp
  • The fog lamp button on the headlamp switch pressed
  • The headlamp switch set to AUTO, parking lamp, or low beam
  
Rear fog lamps
  • The rear fog lamp button on the headlamp switch is pressed
  • The headlamp switch set to AUTO, low beam, or parking lamp (including the fog lamp)
  
Parking lamps
  • Terminal 15 off
  • The headlamp switch set to 0 or AUTO
  • The turn signal switch is blinking
