Camshaft Seal, Removing And Installing
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Puller - Camshaft Seal: T10443
- Assembly Tool: T10493
Procedure
-- Remove the toothed belt from the camshaft. Refer to TOOTHED BELT, REMOVING FROM CAMSHAFTS .
TIP:
The internal press piece of the Puller - Camshaft Seal: T10443 is loosened from the pressure bolt if it is turned backward too far. Then the press piece must be pushed back onto the pressure bolt.
-- Carefully turn back the threaded pin -arrow- of the Puller - Camshaft Seal: T10443 until light resistance is felt.
-- Install the Puller - Camshaft Seal: T10443 as shown, and then lock it into place with the threaded pin -A-.
-- Install the pressure bolt -B- until the shaft seal is pulled out.
-- Clean the running and sealing surfaces completely of oil residue with degreasing agent.
-- Clean the sealing lip of the new shaft seal over the complete outer circumference (removing the wax layer) with degreasing agent.
TIP:
Use the Silicone Adhesive D 176 501 A1 to seal the outside of the shaft seal.
-- Apply the evenly proportioned silicone adhesive on the outer sealing lip of the shaft seal.
- The sealant bead must be applied evenly around the complete circumference.
-- Place the Assembly Tool - Guide Sleeve : T10493/1 on the camshaft as shown.
-- Carefully slide the shaft seal -1- over the guide sleeve and onto the camshaft.
- The guide sleeve remains on the camshaft as a stop while pushing the shaft seal in.
-- Press the shaft seal in as far as the stop using the Assembly Tool - Thrust Piece : T10493/2 and Assembly Tool - Bolt : T10493/3 .
-- Install the toothed belt (adjust valve timing). Refer to Installing (Adjusting Valve Timing) .
