Turbocharger Vacuum Diaphragm, Adjusting: Adjusting
TIP:
It is necessary to adjust the diaphragm only if it has been removed.
- Turbocharger removed.
-- Remove hose -arrow- from vacuum diaphragm on turbocharger.
-- Loosen the clamp over the linkage on the turbocharger.
-- Loosen the lock nut -2-.
-- Adjust the bypass flap -1- using the knurled nut -arrow- so that the flap can still just be turned by hand.
-- Install the lock nut hand-tight.
-- Connect the :VAS6213 and :VAS6342 to the vacuum diaphragm and to connection II on the : VAG1397A , as illustrated.
-- Close the :VAS6342 on the lever -1-.
-- Set the slide ring -1- on the :VAS6213 in position -B- for "pressure".
-- Switch the :VAG1397B and set the slide switch to position II.
-- Secure the :VW387 onto the turbocharger -arrow-.
TIP:
The mm specifications apply to the value read out (includes 1 mm pre-load).
-- Secure the :VAS6341/1 with the :VAS6341/3 and :VAS6341/4 to the :VW387 .
-- Set the :VAS6341/1 to 1 mm tension at 0 bar.
-- Turn the :VAS6341/1 display to 0.
-- Check the dial gauge for ease of movement.
-- Operate the :VAS6213 until the :VAG1397B displays 460 ± 5 mbar (6.67 ± 0.07 psi).
-- 4.1 mm to 4.3 mm must appear in the dial gauge; if not, turn the knurled nut until the value is displayed.
-- Tighten the lock nut hand-tight.
-- Repeat the measurement.
-- Reduce pressure to 0 mbar via :VAS6342 .
-- Set the : VAS6341/1 to 0.
TIP:
The following measurements must be performed in one sequence. In the meantime, the pressure must not dissipate to 0.
-- Operate the :VAS6213 until the :VAG1397B displays 460 ± 5 mbar 460 ± 5 mbar (6.67 ± 0.07 psi).
-- Read and note the value on the :VAS6341/1 .
-- Operate the :VAS6213 until the :VAG1397B displays 650 mbar to 700 mbar (9.42 psi to 10.15 psi).
-- Reduce the pressure to 460 ± 5 mbar (6.67 ± 0.07 psi) via :VAS6342 .
-- Read and note the value on the :VAS6341/1 .
-- Add value 1 and 2 together and divide by two.
-- The result (mean value) must be 5 ± 0.25 mm.
-- If the result (mean value) is not 5 ± 0.25 mm, correct the adjustment, tighten the lock nut by hand and repeat the measurement.
-- If the result (average) is 5 ± 0.25 mm, tighten the lock nut and secure with sealing wax. Refer to parts information for the correct sealing wax.
-- Secure the locking plate -1- over vacuum diaphragm linkage.
