Pinpoint Test R : The APIM Does Not Acknowledge Voice Commands And Outgoing Audio Is Not Transmitted During A Phone Call
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Ford Expedition. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- R1 CHECK THE MICROPHONE CIRCUITS FOR CORRECT VOLTAGENOTE: This pinpoint test step directs testing circuits using a back-probe method. Use the special back-probe tool POM6411. Do not force test leads or other probes into connectors. Adequate care must be exercised to avoid connector terminal damage, while ensuring that good electrical contact is made with the circuit or terminal. Failure to follow these instructions may cause damage to wiring, terminals, or connectors, and may cause subsequent electrical faults.
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: APIM C2383A .
- Remove the connector cover for C2383A by gently releasing two tabs located near the circuit entry point, and sliding the cover out of place.
- Backprobe: APIM C2383A-12
- Backprobe: APIM C2383A-13
- Ignition ON.
- Measure by backprobing:
Stereo Right
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2383A-12 C2383A-13
Is the voltage between 1.6 and 6.3 volts?
Yes GO to R2. No GO to R7. - R2 CHECK THE MICROPHONE'S RESPONSE TO SOUND INPUTS
- Operate the audio system in radio tuner AM/FM mode.
- While increasing and decreasing the audio system volume, measure the AC voltage:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2383A-12 C2383A-13
Is fluctuating AC voltage present that increases when the audio system volume increases and decreases when the audio system volume decreases?
Yes GO to R7. No GO to R3. - R3 CHECK THE MICROPHONE CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: APIM C2383A , remove the backprobes, and reinstall the connector cover.
- Ignition ON.
Is any voltage present?
Yes REPAIR the circuit in question. No GO to R4. - R4 CHECK THE MICROPHONE CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes GO to R5. No REPAIR the circuit in question. - R5 CHECK THE AUDIBLE PROMPT CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: Microphone C9221 .
Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to R6. No REPAIR the circuit in question. - R6 CHECK THE AUDIBLE PROMPT CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER
Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new microphone. REFER to Microphone . No REPAIR the circuits. - R7 CHECK FOR CORRECT APIM OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect the APIM connector and related in-line connectors.
- Repair:
- Corrosion (clean module pins or install new connectors or terminals)
- Damaged or bent pins (install new terminals or pins)
- Pushed-out pins (install new pins as necessary)
- Reconnect the APIM connector and related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Wait at least 2 minutes for the APIM to re-initialize.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, Refer to APIM Hardware Testing . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
