Camshaft Timing Chain, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- Remove the upper timing chain cover. Refer to UPPER TIMING CHAIN COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
There is a risk of damaging the threads.
- The control valve has left-hand threads.
-- Remove the left and right control valves using the Assembly Tool -1- in the direction of -arrow-.
Depending On The Version Of The Control Valve Use One Of The Listed Tools:
- Central Valve Assembly Tool:T10352
- Central Valve Assembly Tool:T10352/1
- Assembly Tool :T10352/2
- Assembly Tool:T10352/3
- Assembly Tool:T10352/4
-- To do so counterhold on the vibration damper with the :T40263 , :T40314 and the 24 mm socket.
-- Remove the bolts -1 through 6-.
Risk of damaging the bearing bracket.
- Carefully remove the bearing bracket without tilting it.
-- Remove the bearing mount.
Risk of destroying due to a skipping camshaft timing chain.
- Turn the crankshaft only in direction of engine rotation -arrow-.
-- Turn the crankshaft using the :T40263 , :T40314 and the 24 mm socket until the vibration damper is at "TDC".
- The markings -3- from the camshaft chain sprockets -2 and 4- must point upward respectively.
- The notch -arrow- on the vibration damper -1- and the arrow marking -5- on the lower timing chain cover must be align.
-- Remove the lower timing chain cover. Refer to LOWER TIMING CHAIN COVER, REPLACING .
-- Check the "TDC point" again.
-- Press the tension spring wire clip in the direction of -arrow- and secure it with a :T40011 .
-- Remove the guide pin -1- and the chain tensioner -2-.
-- Remove the oil pump chain from the three-layer chain sprocket, pull forward and place at the bottom of the oil pump chain sprocket.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.
-- Install the :T40243 on the cylinder head -lower arrows-.
-- Press the chain tensioner circlip -1- together and hold it.
-- Slowly press and hold the :T40243 in the direction of -arrow-.
- This will push back the chain tensioner.
The chain tensioner is lubricated with oil and can only be pushed back slowly by applying constant pressure.
-- Lock the chain tensioner with the :T40267 .
-- Remove the :T40243 .
-- Install the :T40271/2 on the cylinder head.
-- Push the camshaft positioning tool in the splines of the chain sprocket in direction of -arrow B-.
-- If required, turn the intake camshaft with the Adapter:T40266 or Adapter:T10567 slightly back and forth in direction of -A arrows-.
-- Bolt the :T40271/1 to the cylinder head.
The help of a second technician is necessary for the following step.
-- Hold the exhaust camshaft in place using the :T40266 or :T10567 . Remove the guide pin -1- and remove the tensioning rail -2- downward.
-- Turn the exhaust camshaft clockwise in direction of -arrow A- again until the Camshaft Locks:T40271/1 can be pushed in the chain sprocket splines in direction of -arrow B-.
-- Remove bolts -arrows- and remove guide rail -1-.
-- Remove the guide pin -1- and the guide rail -2-.
-- Remove the camshaft timing chain from the camshaft sprockets and remove downward.
Risk of damaging valves and piston crowns.
- Do not turn the crankshaft if the camshaft timing chain has been removed.
