Emergency Release From P, A4/A5

NOTE:

It is necessary to check the parking lock emergency release after performing any work on it or after removing and installing the transmission.

Releasing

WARNING:

There is a risk of an accident from the vehicle starting to roll.

  • Pull the parking brake button to activate the electro-mechanical parking brake.

-- Remove the trim from the cupholder in the center console.

-- Remove the unlocking element -2- from the vehicle tool kit.

-- Insert the release tool as shown in the mount -1- for the emergency release.

-- Turn the release tool 90° in direction of -arrow B-, at the same time push downward in direction of -arrow A- until it engages.

NOTE:

When the parking lock is emergency released, the "N" mode is displayed in the instrument cluster.

The following message also appears in the instrument cluster: "Vehicle may roll! Cannot shift to P. Please apply parking brake".

Resetting the Release

NOTE:

To reduce the dissolving power and to make handling easier the following procedure is necessary:

-- Operate the foot brake, start the engine and perform the position change N > D > N.

-- Switch off the engine grasp the socket with two hands and pull upward.

-- Operate the foot brake start the engine and perform the position change N > D > N.

NOTE:

When the parking lock is set "P" must be displayed in the instrument cluster and in the Selector Lever Transmission Range Display -Y5-.
