Camshaft, Removing and Installing, 1.8L Engine: Removing
- The sealing surfaces of the lower cylinder head cover and on the upper cylinder head must not be reworked.
- The camshaft bearings are integrated in the cylinder head or cylinder head cover. Before removing the cylinder head cover the tension from the camshaft timing chain must be released.
- If the cylinder head cover was removed, the cap -item 15 - must be replaced.
- During installation, all cable ties must be installed at the same location.
- Replace the cylinder head cover bolt after removing.
Preliminary work may be required depending on the model. Refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Remove camshaft timing chain from camshafts. Refer to Camshaft Timing Chain, Removing from Camshafts .
- Remove the ignition coils with power output stages. Refer to IGNITION COILS WITH POWER OUTPUT STAGES, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Remove the oil separator on the cylinder head cover. Refer to OIL SEPARATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Disconnect the wire -arrows-.
- Disconnect the connector -1- from the Camshaft Position Sensor - G40-.
- Turn the intake camshaft with a wrench in the direction of -arrow 1-, slide the -T40271/2- out of the chain sprocket splines in the direction of -arrow 2- and bring the camshaft into the rest position.
- Turn the exhaust camshaft with a wrench in the direction of -arrow 1-, slide the -T40271/1- out of the chain sprocket splines in the direction of -arrow 2- and bring the camshaft into the rest position.
- Turn the exhaust camshaft with the -T10172A- slightly in the direction of -arrow A- and push the -T40271/1- from the chain sprocket splines direction of -arrow B-.
- Remove the high pressure pump. Refer to HIGH PRESSURE PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Remove the vacuum pump. Refer to Brake system vacuum pump V192, removing and installing .
- Remove the cylinder head cover bolts in -1 to 6- sequence.
- Pry up the cylinder head cover -2- using a tool for example a screwdriver -1- starting at the chain side.
- Remove the cylinder head cover.
- Remove the camshaft and cover the open engine components.
