Two Different Chain Tensioners May Be Installed Depending on the Version:
Version 1:
- Install the -T40243- -arrows-.
- Lift up the locking wedge for the chain tensioner by inserting a scriber or a suitable screwdriver into the chain tensioner opening in direction of -arrow 1-. Slowly press and hold the - T40243- in direction of -arrow 2-.
Version 2:
- Install the -T40243- -arrows-.
- Press the chain tensioner circlip -1- together and slowly press and hold the -T40243- in the direction of -arrow-.
All Versions:
- Remove the -T40243-.
- Bolt the -T40271/2- to the cylinder head and into the splines on the chain sprocket in the direction of the -arrow 2-. If necessary, turn the intake camshaft with a wrench in the direction of the -arrow 1-.
With Wrench Clearance:
- Bolt the -T40271/1- to the cylinder head. Counterhold the camshaft with a wrench in a clockwise direction -arrow-.
- Remove the bolt -A- and slide the tensioning rail down. At the same time continue counterholding the camshaft.
- Turn the exhaust camshaft clockwise in the direction of -arrow- until the -T40271/1- can be slid into the chain sprocket splines.
Without Wrench Clearance:
- Bolt the -T40271/1- to the cylinder head.
The help of a second technician is necessary for the following steps.
- Hold the exhaust camshaft securely with the -T10172A- in the direction of the -arrow A-. Remove the bolt -1- and guide the tensioning rail -2- downward.
- Turn the exhaust camshaft clockwise in the direction of -arrow A- until the -T40271/1- can be pushed into the chain sprocket splines -C- in the direction of -arrow B-.
All Versions:
NOTE:
- Mark the camshafts for the -T40271/1- and -T40271/2-.
- When using new camshafts: transfer the self-made markings from the old camshafts to the new camshafts.
- Not making the marks will result in much more work when reinstalling.
- Mark the camshaft sprocket to the -T40271/1- and the - T40271/2- -arrow-.
- Remove the upper guide rail -1- by unlocking the catch with a screwdriver and pushing the guide rail forward.
- Remove the camshaft timing chain from chain sprockets.
- Never turn the crankshaft when the camshaft timing chain is removed.
