Selector Lever Cable, Checking And Adjusting

Test Conditions

Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting 

Selector lever cable must be adjusted if:

-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING 2.0L DIESEL or AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING 2.0L .

-- Move the selector lever into "P".

-- Loosen the adjusting screw -arrow- on the selector lever cable.

-- Set transmission shift lever on the transmission to "P". Push the selector lever all the way to the rear, opposite the drive direction, to check it.

NOTE:

Make sure the transmission is in "P" (parking lock is engaged) if raising the vehicle. It must not be possible to turn the front wheels.

-- To release selector lever cable tension, carefully move selector lever front and back slightly but do not shift into another selector lever position.

-- Tighten the adjusting screw -arrow-. The position of the selector lever cable must not change while doing this.

Check The Selector Lever Cable Adjustment. 

-- Press the button and move the selector lever to the rear approximately 5 mm out of "P" and hold it there. Do not move it into "R".

-- Release selector lever.

-- Move the selector lever into "N".

-- Press the button and move the selector lever to the rear approximately 5 mm out of "N" and hold it there. Do not move it into "D/S".

-- Release selector lever.

-- Press the button and move the selector lever forward approximately 5 mm out of "N" and hold it there. Do not move it into "R".

-- Release selector lever.

-- If the selector lever does not react as described, repeat the adjustment.

-- Check the selector mechanism. Refer to GEARSHIFT MECHANISM, CHECKING .
