Lower Timing Chain Cover, Replacing: Installing

• Replace the bolts that were tightened with an additional turn after removing them.
• Replace the lower timing chain cover and seal after removal.

-- To prevent contamination of the lubricating system with sealant residue, place a clean cloth over the open engine components.

-- Remove any sealant residue on the cylinder block using a flat blade scraper.

-- Clean any oil or grease off the sealing surfaces.

-- Check that both alignment pins -arrows- for centering the cover are present.

Be sure to check the expiration date of the sealant.

-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: about 3 mm).

Cover With 15 Bolts

-- Apply the sealant on the clean sealing surface -arrow 1- and on the edges -arrows 2- of the new cover.

Cover With Eight Bolts

-- Apply the sealant as shown on the clean sealing surface -arrow 1- and on the edges -arrows 2- of the new cover.

Continuation 

• Sealant bead thickness: 2 to 3 mm.
• The sealant bead may not be thicker than specified, otherwise excess sealant could enter the oil pan and clog the oil intake pipe screen.
• The cover must be installed within five minutes after the sealant has been applied.

-- Immediately attach the cover and tighten the bolts.

• Tighten the bolts -arrows- with an additional turn after installing the vibration damper. The bolts must be removed again to install the vibration damper.

• After installing the cover, allow the sealant to harden for approximately 30 minutes. Only afterward may the engine oil be replenished.

-- Install the ribbed belt tensioner. Refer to RIBBED BELT TENSIONER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the vibration damper. Refer to VIBRATION DAMPER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the engine support. Refer to ENGINE SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING [CNSB, CNTC, & CYFB] (DI - 1.8L/2.0L) / ENGINE SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING [CNSB, CNTC, CYFB] (TFSI - 2.0L) .

-- Fill the engine oil and check the oil level. Refer to ENGINE OIL .
