Fuel Level Sensor - G-, Checking, Vehicles With All Wheel Drive AWD
Special Tools And Workshop Equipment Required
- Analog/Digital Multimeter:FLU83III
- Connector Test Set:VAG1594D
- Trim Removal Wedge:3409
PROCEDURE
-- Move the front seats all the way forward.
-- Turn off the ignition.
-- Remove the rear bench seat. Refer to BENCH SEAT/SINGLE SEAT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Unclip the right locking flange cover -1- at the tabs -arrows- using the Trim Removal Wedge:3409 .
-- Disconnect the connector -2- from the locking flange.
Ignore items -1 and 3-.
The Fuel Level Sensor -G- Is Installed:
The fuel tank must be filled completely in order to have an exact reading of the resistance on the "Fuel tank full" when it is installed. Drive at least 500 meters after filling the fuel tank full to get rid of any bubbles in the fuel tank. Then fill the fuel tank again.
-- Connect the multimeter for resistance measurements shown in the table.
| Measurement at contact | Tank empty | Tank full |
|---|---|---|
| 1 + 2 | 261 to 303 Ω | 78 to 80 Ω |
| 1 + 3 | 37 to 79 Ω | 260 to 262 Ω |
| 2 + 3 1) | 335 to 345 Ω | 335 to 345 Ω |
| 1) Arbitrary sensor position | ||
The Fuel Level Sensor -G- is removed:
To check resistance values "tank full" or "tank empty", the fuel delivery unit must be removed and the sensor floater must be moved in upper or lower end position.
With the fuel delivery unit removed, the following values are obtained because of the greater deflection of the floater arm:
-- Connect the multimeter for resistance measurements shown in the table.
| Measurement at contact | Tank empty | Tank full |
|---|---|---|
| 1 + 2 | 297 to 303 Ω | 78 to 80 Ω |
| 1 + 3 | 37 to 45 Ω | 254 to 262 Ω |
| 2 + 3 1) | 335 to 345 Ω | 335 to 345 Ω |
| 1) Arbitrary sensor position | ||
The Fuel Level Sensor -G- is faulty when the following is detected:
- Large deviations in measured values
- Measured value 0 Ω (short circuit).
- Measured value ∞ Ω (open circuit).
- No fault in the electric wires.
-- Install the fuel delivery unit/Fuel Level Sensor -G-. Refer to FUEL DELIVERY UNIT/FUEL LEVEL SENSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
