Camshaft, Measuring Radial Clearance: Procedure
NOTE:
Use old bolts to measure radial play.
-- Remove the camshafts, refer to REMOVING .
-- Mark the assignment of the roller rocker lever for installation later.
-- Remove the roller rocker lever and place it on a clean surface.
-- Clean the bearing and the bearing journals.
-- Place Plastigage® over entire width of bearing journal or into bearing.
- Plastigage® must rest in center of bearing.
-- Install the camshafts, mount the camshaft housing and tighten using the old bolts, refer to Figure. When doing this, be careful not to rotate the camshafts.
-- Remove the camshaft housing and the camshafts again.
-- Compare width of Plastigage® with calibrated scale.
Radial clearance:
- With bearing-diameter 24 mm (0.944 in.): 0.024 to 0.066 mm (0.0094 to 0.0025 in.)
- For 36 mm (1.417 in.) diameter bearings: 0.032 to 0.078 mm (0.0012 to 0.0030 in.)
-- Replace bolts for the final assembly.
