Tightening Specifications
The tightening specifications apply only to lightly greased, oiled, phosphated or blackened nuts and bolts.
Additional lubricants, such as engine or transmission oil are permissible, although lubricants containing graphite are not.
Do not use any ungreased parts.
Tightening specification tolerance: ±15%.

- Subframe mount. Refer to OVERVIEW - SUBFRAME MOUNT .
- Securing the automatic transmission to the engine. Refer to TRANSMISSION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Procedure
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- The engine/transmission assembly is attached to the :T10359 .
Replace any bolts that were tightened with an additional turn.
Replace self-locking nuts and bolts and seals, gaskets and O-rings.
The hose connections as well as the air guide pipes and hoses must be free of oil and grease before installing.
When installing, bring all cable ties back to same positions.
-- Install the intermediate plate. Refer to Fig 1.
Vehicles with a Manual Transmission
-- If the alignment sleeves -A- for centering the engine and transmission are missing inside the cylinder block, then install the sleeves.
-- If a needle bearing is installed in crankshaft, remove needle bearing. Refer to CRANKSHAFT NEEDLE BEARING, REPLACING .
Vehicles with S tronic Transmission
-- If the alignment sleeves -A- for centering the engine and transmission are missing inside the cylinder block, then install the sleeves.
-- If no needle bearing is installed in crankshaft, install the needle bearing. Refer to CRANKSHAFT NEEDLE BEARING, REPLACING .
Vehicles with Automatic Transmission
-- If the alignment sleeves -A- for centering the engine and transmission are missing inside the cylinder block, then install the sleeves.
-- If a needle bearing is installed in the crankshaft, remove the needle bearing. Refer to CRANKSHAFT NEEDLE BEARING, REPLACING .
Continuation for All Vehicles
-- Tighten the transmission to the engine.
-- Install the transmission support. Refer to ASSEMBLY MOUNTS .
-- Lift the engine/transmission assembly using the :T10359A .
-- Install the bracket for the bevel box. Refer to Installing .
-- Guide the engine/transmission subassembly into the body.
-- Install the bolts -arrows- for the engine mount by hand until it is in position.
-- Install the bolts -arrows- for the transmission mount by hand until its in position.
The bolts are only tightened to final specification after the assembly mounts have been adjusted. Refer to SUBFRAME MOUNT, ADJUSTING .
The installation position is shown in the illustration on a vehicle with a manual transmission.
-- Remove the :T10359A from the engine.
-- Install the starter. Refer to STARTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the After-Run Coolant Pump -V51-. Refer to OVERVIEW - ELECTRIC COOLANT PUMP .
-- Install the air guide pipe. Refer to OVERVIEW - CHARGE AIR SYSTEM .
-- Install the air guides. Refer to OVERVIEW - CHARGE AIR HOSE CONNECTIONS .
Vehicles with a Manual Transmission
-- Connect the pipe to the clutch slave cylinder bleeder and bleed the clutch hydraulics. Refer to CLUTCH .
-- Install the cables with the cable bracket. Refer to Gearshift Mechanism, Checking .
Vehicles with 7-Speed S tronic Transmission
-- Install and adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, CHECKING AND ADJUSTING .
Vehicles with Automatic Transmission
-- Install and adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to [For transmission(s) 09M] Gearshift Mechanism, Checking .
-- Install the ATF cooler. Refer to ATF COOLER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
All Vehicles
-- Install the front exhaust pipe with the catalytic converter. Refer to FRONT EXHAUST PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Fasten the driveshaft. Refer to DRIVESHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the drive axles. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the transverse link and the ball joints. Refer to BALL JOINT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the coupling rod. Refer to COUPLING ROD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the generator. Refer to GENERATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the A/C compressor. Refer to A/C Compressor, Removing And Installing .
-- Install the ribbed belt. Refer to RIBBED BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Electrical connections and wiring routing. Refer to the Appropriate Systems Wiring Diagram Information.
-- Install the Throttle Valve Control Module -J338-. Refer to Throttle Valve Control Module -J338-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the Engine Control Module -J623-. Refer to Engine Control Module -J623-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Connect the coolant hoses with the connector coupling. Refer to Fig 2.
-- Install the pendulum support. Refer to PENDULUM SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the wheel spoiler. Refer to Spoiler, Removing And Installing .
-- Install the front wheels. Refer to 44 WHEELS, TIRES, WHEEL ALIGNMENT .
-- Adjust the subframe mount. Refer to SUBFRAME MOUNT, ADJUSTING .
-- Install the battery and the battery tray. Refer to BATTERY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING and BATTERY TRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install and adjust the windshield wiper arms. Refer to WINDSHIELD WIPER ARMS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Check the oil level.
There is a risk of destroying control modules with excess voltage.
- Do not use a charger as a starting aid.
Do not reuse used coolant.
-- Fill with coolant. Refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING .
-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to Noise Insulation, Removing And Installing .
-- The combustion misfire adaptations must be adjusted after replacing the engine. Select 01 Reset Combustion Misfire Adaptation in Guided Fault Finding on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
