Camshaft, Removing And Installing, Engine Without Camshaft Adjustment: Removing
- The sealing surfaces of the lower cylinder head cover and on the upper cylinder head must not be reworked.
- The camshaft bearings are integrated in the cylinder head or cylinder head cover. Before removing the cylinder head cover the tension from the camshaft timing chain must be released.
- If the cylinder head cover was removed, the cap -item 15- OVERVIEW - VALVETRAIN, ENGINE WITHOUT CAMSHAFT ADJUSTMENT must be replaced.
- During installation, all cable ties must be installed at the same location.
- Replace the cylinder head cover bolt after removing.
Preliminary work may be required depending on the model. Refer to OVERVIEW - VALVETRAIN .
TIP:
There are two versions of the guide rail. Please check which guide rail is installed.
Version -A- : long guide rail -arrow-.
Version -B- : short guide rail -arrow-.
-- Remove the camshaft timing chain with the longer guide rail -A-. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the camshaft timing chain from the camshafts with the short guide rail -B-. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING FROM CAMSHAFTS .
-- Turn the intake camshaft with a wrench in the direction of -arrow 1-, slide the :T40271/2 out of the chain sprocket splines in the direction of -arrow 2- and bring the camshaft into the rest position.
With Wrench Clearance
-- Turn the exhaust camshaft with a wrench in the direction of -arrow 1-, slide the :T40271/1 out of the chain sprocket splines in the direction of -arrow 2- and bring the camshaft into the rest position.
Without Wrench Clearance
-- Turn the exhaust camshaft with the :T10172A slightly in the direction of -arrow A- and push the :T40271/1 from the chain sprocket splines direction of -arrow B-.
-- Remove the high pressure pump. Refer to HIGH PRESSURE PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the vacuum pump. Refer to VACUUM PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the cylinder head cover bolts in -1 to 6- sequence.
-- Pry up the cylinder head cover -2- using a tool for example a screwdriver -1- starting at the chain side.
-- Remove the cylinder head cover.
-- Remove the camshaft and cover the open engine components.
