Fuel Supply System Safety Precautions
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 Audi A6 Quattro, 2014 Audi A6 Quattro, 2013 Audi A6, and 2012 Audi A6. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Note the following when working on the fuel supply:
WARNING:
There is a risk of injury because the fuel is under very high pressure.
- The fuel injection system is separated into a high-pressure section (maximum approximately 120 bar (1740 psi)) and a low-pressure section (4 to 7 bar (58 to 101.5 psi)).
- Before opening high pressure area, fuel pressure must be reduced to a residual pressure of approximately 6 bar (87 psi). Procedure, refer to FUEL SYSTEM, FILLING/BLEEDING .
To prevent personal injury and damage to the injection and ignition system, observe the following:
- The ignition must be switched off before connecting or disconnecting injection and ignition system wiring or tester cables.
- Wash the engine only when the ignition is turned off.
- Delete any Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory entries that occurred during testing or assembly, refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester, Guided Functions , Check DTC Memory , and then Generate Readiness Code .
CAUTION:
Risk of damaging electronic components when disconnecting the battery.
- Complete the steps for disconnecting the battery.
- Disconnect the battery only when the ignition is turned off, refer to BATTERY -A-, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
WARNING:
Danger due to leaking fuel
- Because the Transfer Fuel Pump -G6- runs briefly when the battery is connected and the driver's door is opened, the voltage supply to the Transfer Fuel Pump -G6- must be disconnected before opening the fuel system.
-- Remove the fuse for the Fuel Pump Control Module -J538-, refer to APPROPRIATE SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAM INFORMATION.
