Wheel Bearing Housing, Removing And Installing, AWD Vehicles, Except E-Tron: Removing

-- AWD vehicles: loosen the driveshaft threaded connection on the wheel hub. Refer to DRIVE AXLE THREADED CONNECTION, LOOSENING AND TIGHTENING .

-- e-tron: loosen the CV joint threaded connection on the wheel hub. Refer to DRIVE AXLE THREADED CONNECTION, LOOSENING AND TIGHTENING .

-- Remove the rear wheel. Refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .

-- Disconnect the connector -1- from the Left Rear ABS Wheel Speed Sensor -G46- or the Right Rear ABS Wheel Speed Sensor -G44-.

-- Remove the bolt -2- and the bracket with lines -3-, if equipped.

-- Remove the bolt -2- and the rear speed sensor -1-.

-- Remove the brake caliper and brake rotor from the wheel bearing housing. ), guide them past the suspension and secure them to the body.

-- Remove the bolts -1- and the cover plate -2-.

Vehicles with Steel Suspension 

-- Remove the coil spring. Refer to SPRING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, COIL SPRING .

Vehicles with Air Suspension 

-- Remove air spring SPRING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, AIR SPRING .

-- Mark the installed position of the adjusting screw -1- to the wheel bearing housing -2-.

-- Remove the nut -4- and the shim -3-.

-- Remove the adjusting screw.

-- Remove the bolt -4-.

-- Remove the bolt -arrow- and the washer between the wheel bearing housing and the shock absorber.
