Pinpoint Test M : Poor Image Quality

NOTE: Before disconnecting the camera or the associated jumper harness, verify the connectors are properly seated and latched.

  1. M1 CHECK AND CLEAN THE REAR VIDEO CAMERA LENS

    • Clean and make sure that the video camera lens is clear of any dirt, debris and/or scratches.
    • Test the video camera system and verify the video camera image.

    Is the video camera concern still present? 

    Yes  GO to  M2.
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern was caused by dirt or debris on the camera lens or intermittent electromagnetic interference from an outside source.
  2. M2 CHECK THE VOLTAGE SUPPLY TO THE CAMERA

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Inline C4488 (Expedition) or C4352B (Navigator).
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:

      Expedition

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  M3.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  3. M3 CHECK FOR GROUND TO THE CAMERA

    • Measure:

      Expedition

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  M5.
    No  If the vehicle is not  equipped with an 8 in (203.2 mm) touchscreen, REPAIR the ground circuit. If the vehicle is equipped with an 8 in (203.2 mm) touchscreen, GO to M4  .
  4. M4 CHECK THE GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE APIM AND THE CAMERA

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure:

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  M13.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  5. M5 CHECK THE VIDEO CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: APIM C2383A

      (with touchscreen).

    • Disconnect: FCDIM C2123 (with 4.2 in (106.68 mm) display).
    • Disconnect: Interior Mirror C911 (with display in mirror).
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:

      Expedition

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the affected circuit.
    No  GO to  M6.
  6. M6 CHECK THE VIDEO CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure:

      Expedition

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  M7.
    No  REPAIR the affected circuit.
  7. M7 CHECK THE VIDEO CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO THE VIDEO SHIELD

    • Measure:

      Expedition

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  M8.
    No  REPAIR the affected circuits.
  8. M8 CHECK THE VIDEO CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

    • Connect a fused jumper wire:

    • Measure:

      With 8 in (203.2 mm) touchscreen

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  REMOVE the fused jumper wire. GO to  M11.
    No  REMOVE the fused jumper wire. For Expedition, GO to  M9.For Navigator, GO to  M10.
  9. M9 CHECK THE VIDEO (+) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN (EXPEDITION)

    • Measure:

      With 8 in (203.2 mm) touchscreen

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  REPAIR the video (-) circuit.
    No  REPAIR the video (+) circuit.
  10. M10 CHECK THE VIDEO (+) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN (NAVIGATOR)

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  REPAIR the video (-) circuit.
    No  REPAIR the video (+) circuit.
  11. M11 CHECK THE REAR CAMERA JUMPER HARNESS

    • Inspect the rear camera harness for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
      • open or short circuits

    Is the harness OK? 

    Yes  GO to  M12.
    No  REPAIR the harness as necessary.
  12. M12 CHECK FOR CORRECT CAMERA OPERATION

    • Connect all disconnected connectors.
    • Disconnect the camera connector.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect the camera connector and make sure it seats correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new rear camera. REFER to Video Camera - Expedition  .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
  13. M13 CHECK FOR CORRECT APIM OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect the APIM connector.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Reconnect the APIM connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
