Pinpoint Test L : B1318
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Ford Expedition. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- L1 RECHECK THE LTM DTCs
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the DTCs and then repeat the LTM self-test.
Is DTC B1318 still present?
Yes GO to L2. No The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to a previous low battery voltage condition. - L2 CHECK FOR CHARGING SYSTEM DTCs IN THE PCM
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the PCM KOEO self-test and KOER.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from the PCM.
Are any voltage or charging system related DTCs present in the PCM ?
Yes DIAGNOSE the charging system. REFER to Charging System . No GO to L3. - L3 CHECK THE BATTERY CONDITION AND STATE OF CHARGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Check the battery condition and verify the battery is fully charged. Refer to Battery, Mounting and Cables .
Is the battery OK and fully charged?
Yes GO to L4. No REFER to Battery, Mounting and Cables . - L4 CHECK THE LTM VOLTAGE PIDs
- Ignition ON.
- Measure and record the voltage at the battery.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, monitor the LTM PIDs as follows:
- Battery Voltage #1 Data (VBAT_1)
- Battery Voltage #2 Data (VBAT_2)
Are the voltages within 0.2 volt of the recorded battery voltage?
Yes GO to L7. No GO to L5. - L5 CHECK THE LTM VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUITS FOR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: LTM C4174A .
- Ignition ON.
Are the voltages within 0.2 volt of the recorded battery voltage?
Yes GO to L6. No REPAIR the circuit in question for high resistance. - L6 CHECK THE LTM GROUND CIRCUIT FOR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4174A-1 Ground
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to L7. No REPAIR the circuit. - L7 CHECK FOR CORRECT LTM OPERATION
- Disconnect all the LTM connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion (install new connectors or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect all the LTM connectors and make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new LTM. REFER to Liftgate/Trunk Module (LTM) . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
