Pinpoint Test J : The Rear Window Wiper Stays On Continuously

- J1 CHECK THE REAR WINDOW WIPER OPERATION WITH THE IGNITION OFF
- Ignition OFF.
- Observe the rear window wiper operation.
Does the rear window wiper continue to operate?
Yes GO to J2. No GO to J3. - J2 CHECK THE REAR WINDOW WIPER RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Disconnect: Rear Window Wiper Motor Relay.
- Observe the rear window wiper operation.
Does the rear window wiper continue to operate?
Yes REPAIR the circuit. No INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor relay. - J3 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH PIDs
- Ignition ON.
- Make sure the wiper/washer switch is in the off setting.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the SCCM PIDs.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, monitor the following SCCM PIDs :
- Rear Wiper Delay 1 (R_WIPE_DEL1)
- Rear Wiper Delay 2 (R_WIPE_DEL2)
Do both PIDs indicate the wiper/washer switch is off?
Yes GO to J4. No INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to Steering Column Switches . If the concern is still present, INSTALL a new SCCM. REFER to Steering Column Switches . TEST the system for normal operation. - J4 CHECK THE REAR WINDOW WIPER OPERATION WITH THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR DISCONNECTED
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C1656 .
- Ignition ON.
- Observe the rear window wiper operation.
Does the rear window wiper continue to operate?
Yes GO to J5. No INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. REFER to Wiper Motor - Windshield . - J5 CHECK THE REAR WINDOW WIPER MOTOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Rear Window Wiper Motor C476 .
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C476-2 Ground
Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new rear window wiper motor. REFER to Wiper Motor - Rear Window . No REPAIR the circuit.
