PINPOINT TEST AF : The Stoplamps Are On Continuously

  1. AF1 CHECK THE STOPLAMP OPERATION

    • Ignition ON.
    • Observing the stoplamps.

    Are all the stoplamps illuminated? 

    Yes  GO to  AF2
    No  GO to  AF6
  2. AF2 CHECK THE BPP SWITCH

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: BPP Switch C278 .
    • Ignition ON.
    • Observe the stoplamps.

    Do the stoplamps continue to illuminate? 

    Yes  GO to  AF3
    No  INSTALL a new BPP switch. REFER to Stoplamp Switch .
  3. AF3 CHECK THE PCM

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: PCM C175B .
    • Ignition ON.

    Do the stoplamps continue to illuminate? 

    Yes  If equipped with push button start, GO to  AF4If not equipped with push button start, GO to  AF5
    No  GO to  AF7
  4. AF4 CHECK THE RFA MODULE

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: RFA Module C4392D .
    • Ignition ON.

    Do the stoplamps continue to illuminate? 

    Yes  GO to  AF5
    No  GO to  AF8
  5. AF5 CHECK THE BCM STOPLAMP SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Connect a fused jumper wire:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      RUN/START relay, cavity 3

      RUN/START relay, cavity 5
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C2280B-28

      Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REMOVE the fused jumper wire. REPAIR the circuit.
    No  For Expedition, REMOVE the fused jumper wire. GO to  AF9For Navigator, REMOVE the fused jumper wire. GO to  AF6
  6. AF6 CHECK THE BCM STOPLAMP OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Ignition ON.

    Do the stoplamps continue to illuminate? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit.
    No  GO to  AF9
  7. AF7 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION

    • Disconnect and inspect all PCM connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the PCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to Electronic Engine Controls .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  8. AF8 CHECK FOR CORRECT RFA MODULE OPERATION

    • Disconnect and inspect all RFA module connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the RFA module connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new RFA module. REFER to Multifunction Electronic Modules .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  9. AF9 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM OPERATION

    • Disconnect and inspect all BCM connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the BCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, Refer to BCM Hardware Testing ..
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
