Pinpoint Test Av : The Low Washer Fluid Level RECONFIGURABLE Telltale (RTT) Is Never Or Always On

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Ford Expedition. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

  1. AV1 CHECK THE RECONFIGURABLE TELLTALE (RTT) FUNCTION

    • Close all doors and the liftgate.
    • Ignition ON.
    • NOTE: If multiple warnings are present, the message center cycles through each of the warning indicators. Allow the message center to cycle through each display while determining whether the door ajar Reconfigurable Telltale (RTT) is active.

Open the driver door while monitoring the door ajar Reconfigurable Telltale (RTT).

Does the driver door ajar Reconfigurable Telltale (RTT) turn off with the driver door closed and illuminate with the driver door open?

Yes  If the WASHER FLUID LEVEL LOW message is never on, GO to  AV2.If the WASHER FLUID LEVEL LOW message is always on, GO to  AV5.
No  GO to Pinpoint Test AQ .
  2. AV2 CHECK THE LOW WASHER FLUID INDICATOR OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Washer Fluid Level Switch C138 .
    • Connect a fused jumper wire:
      Lead 1 Measurement / Action Lead 2
      C138-1

Yes  REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to  AV3.
No  REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to  AV4.
  3. AV3 CHECK THE WASHER FLUID LEVEL SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C138-1
      GFD134422Courtesy of FORD MOTOR COMPANY
      C138-2

Is the voltage approximately 5 volts or greater?

Yes  INSTALL a new washer fluid level switch or reservoir as necessary.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  4. AV4 CHECK THE WASHER FLUID LEVEL INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: IPC C220 .
    • Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C220-8

      C138-1

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

    Yes  GO to  AV7.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  5. AV5 CHECK THE WASHER FLUID SWITCH

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Washer Fluid Level Switch C138 .
    • Ignition ON.
    • Wait one minute.
    • Observe the low washer fluid message center indicator.

Did the low washer fluid message center indicator turn off?

Yes  INSTALL a new washer fluid level switch or reservoir as necessary.
    No  GO to  AV6.
  6. AV6 CHECK THE WASHER FLUID INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: IPC C220 .
    • Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C220-8

      Ground

Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?

    Yes  GO to  AV7.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  7. AV7 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPC OPERATION

    • Disconnect and inspect the IPC connector.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the IPC connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present?

Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, Refer to IPC Hardware Testing .
No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
