Selector Mechanism, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- Turn off the ignition.
-- Remove the shift lever knob with the shift lever boot. Refer to GEARSHIFT KNOB, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the A/C display control head. Refer to DISPLAY AND CONTROL HEAD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the Multimedia System Control Head -E380-. Refer to Multimedia System Control Head -E380-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the front ashtray -1-. Refer to FRONT ASHTRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the noise insulation over the shift mechanism. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove nuts -arrows-.
-- Remove the rear noise insulation by loosening the fasteners -2- and -3-
Do not bend the flex joint in the front exhaust pipe more than 10° or it will be damaged.
-- Disconnect the exhaust system at clamping sleeve(s) -arrows-.
-- If equipped, remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the driveshaft heat shield -A-.
Driveshaft Bolted on the Transmission Side:
-- Counterhold the driveshaft using Counterhold - Kit - Multiple Use T10172 with Counterhold - Kit - Adapters 5-9 T10172/5 and remove the bolts attaching the driveshaft to the transmission.
-- Press the driveshaft together with rear final drive; the universal joint is able to slide axially.
-- Secure the driveshaft to the side.
Driveshaft Connected on the Transmission Side:
-- Remove the driveshaft. Refer to OVERVIEW - DRIVESHAFT, MOUNTED ON TRANSMISSION SIDE , and DRIVESHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, DRIVESHAFT CONNECTED ON TRANSMISSION SIDE . For Sport Differential, refer to OVERVIEW - DRIVESHAFT, MOUNTED ON TRANSMISSION SIDE , and DRIVESHAFT, MOUNTED ON TRANSMISSION SIDE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the bolts -4- and remove the crossbrace -3-.
-- Remove the nuts -1- and remove the heat shield -2-.
-- Support the transmission using the Engine and Gearbox Jack VAS6931 and the attached Engine/Gearbox Jack - Gearbox Support T10337.
-- Lift the transmission slightly using the Engine and Gearbox Jack VAS6931.
There is the risk of an accident.
- The Engine and Gearbox Jack VAS6931 may only be used during assembly and must not sit unsupervised under the vehicle.
-- Remove the bolts from the tunnel crossmember -arrows-.
-- Lower the transmission to dimension -a- using the Engine and Gearbox Jack VAS6931.
- Dimension -a- = maximum 70 mm.
Ignore item -2-.
-- Remove the bolt -1- for the push rod and for the connecting rod -3-.
Ignore item -2-.
-- Remove the nut -1-.
Danger of causing damage to the gearshift shaft inside the transmission.
- Do not pry off the transmission shift lever -1- using a pry bar or hit it with a hammer.
-- Position the Puller - Gear Shaft Linkage T40160 and remove the gearshift lever -1-.
-- Remove the heat shield under the gearshift mechanism. Refer to OVERVIEW - HEAT SHIELD .
-- Remove the shift mechanism downward.
