Checking the Gearshift Lever Adjustment

-- Start the engine.

-- Press the clutch.

-- Shift through all the gears several times.

-- Operate reverse gear lock (push shift lever down) and move shift lever all the way left in reverse gear gate.

-- Then shift the gearshift lever forward into the reverse gear.

NOTE:

You must not exert any left or right force on shift lever when doing so.

-- Make sure the reverse gear was selected and not the 1st gear.

-- Remove the reverse gear.

-- Now, with greater lateral force toward the left on the gearshift lever, shift into 2nd gear.

NOTE:

The reverse gear may only be shifted into after activating the reverse gear lock.

The gearshift lever must move from the reverse gear gate into the 3rd/4th gear selector lever gate on its own.

Should a gear fail to engage smoothly after repeated selection, then repeat the selector adjustment. Refer to SELECTOR MECHANISM, ADJUSTING - Loosen the push rod bolt -arrow- (See Fig 4).

-- Install the noise insulation cover. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the front ashtray. Refer to FRONT ASHTRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the shift knob with cover. Refer to GEARSHIFT KNOB, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
