DTC B2282: Vehicle Speed Signal Malfunction; DTC B2283: Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction [08/2013 - ]: Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2014 Lexus ES 300h. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Read the Data List according to the display on the Techstream.
      COMBINATION METER

Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
Vehicle Speed Meter Vehicle speed/Min.: 0, Max.: 255 Almost same as actual vehicle speed (Speedometer tester) -

      OK

Vehicle speed displayed on the Techstream is almost the same as the actual vehicle speed measured using a speedometer tester (calibrated chassis dynamometer).

    NG → See step   9

    OK: Go to next step

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM
    1. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Power Source Control / Data List.
    2. Read the Data List according to the display on the Techstream.
      POWER SOURCE CONTROL

Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
Vehicle speed signal Vehicle being driven or stopped/Stop or Run Stop: Vehicle stopped
Run: Vehicle being driven at 5 km/h (3 mph) or more
      -

      OK

On the Techstream screen, the display changes between Stop and Run as shown in the chart above.

    NG → See step   3

    OK → See step   10

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER SOURCE) See step   1

NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR IN CIRCUIT CONNECTED TO POWER SOURCE

    OK: Go to next step

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (GROUND) See step   2

NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: Go to next step

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY)
    1. Disconnect the H1 power management control ECU connector.
    2. Disconnect the H14 combination meter assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      H1-14 (SPDI) - H14-19 (+S) Always Below 1 Ω
H1-14 (SPDI) or H14-19 (+S) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → See step   7

    OK: Go to next step

  6. CHECK POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU
    1. Reconnect the H1 power management control ECU connector.

    2. Reconnect the H14 combination meter assembly connector.
    3. Connect an oscilloscope to terminal H1-14 (SPDI) and H1-6 (E1).
    4. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    5. Check the signal waveform according to the condition(s) in the table below.
      Item Condition
      Tester Connection H1-14 (SPDI) - H1-6 (E1)
      Tool Setting 5 V/DIV., 20 ms./DIV.
Condition Power switch on (IG), vehicle being driven at approx. 5 km/h (3 mph)

      OK

The waveform is similar to that shown in the illustration.

      HINT:

The wavelength becomes shorter as the vehicle speed increases.

    NG → See step   11

    OK → See step   12

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - JUNCTION CONNECTOR)
    1. Disconnect the H115 junction connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      H14-19 (+S) - H115-20 Always Below 1 Ω
      H14-19 (+S) or H115-20 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: Go to next step

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - JUNCTION CONNECTOR)
    1. Disconnect the H114 junction connector.
