Tachometer Malfunction [08/2013 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check if CAN communication DTCs are output. Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [08/2013 - ] .

      Result

      CAN communication DTCs are not output. A
      CAN communication DTCs are output. B

    A: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (TACHO METER OPERATION) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Check the operation by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Tacho Meter Operation Tachometer OFF, 0, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000 -

      OK

      Tachometer indication is normal.

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (ENGINE RPM) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Engine Rpm Engine speed/Min.: 0 rpm, Max.: 12750 rpm Approximately 900 rpm: Idling -

      OK

      Engine speed displayed on the Techstream is almost the same as the tachometer indication.

      HINT: 

      • When the Data List values and tachometer values match, a signal output error of the power management control ECU or an internal malfunction of the combination meter assembly is suspected.
      • When the Data List values and tachometer values do not match, an internal malfunction of the combination meter assembly is suspected.

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM 
    1. Check if hybrid control system DTCs are output. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2013 - ] .

      Result

      DTCs are output. B

  5. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (ENGINE REVOLUTION, ENGINE RPM) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus:
      1. for Hybrid Control: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List.
      2. for Combination Meter: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.
      HYBRID CONTROL

      Min.: 0 rpm, Max.: 16383 rpm
      While idling after the engine is warmed up and inspection mode:
      Approximately 900 rpm

      HINT: 

      • When the Data List values of the ECUs match, an internal malfunction of the power management control ECU is suspected.
      • When the Data List values of the ECUs do not match, a signal output error of the power management control ECU or an internal malfunction of the combination meter assembly is suspected.

  6. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the combination meter assembly with a new or known good one. Refer to REMOVAL [08/2013 - ] .

      OK

      The operation of the tachometer returns to normal.

  7. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2013 - ] 
  8. GO TO HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [08/2013 - ] 
  9. GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [08/2013 - ] 
  10. REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2013 - ]
