Pinpoint Test P : The Heated Wiper Park Feature Is Inoperative
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Lincoln Navigator. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
NOTE:
The following Pinpoint Test uses a test lamp to simulate normal circuit loads. Use only a Rotunda Test Lamp (SGT27000) or 250-300mA incandescent bulb test lamp. To avoid connector terminal damage, use the Rotunda Flex Probe kit for the test lamp probe connection to the vehicle. Do not use the test lamp probe directly on any connector.
NOTE:
The heated wiper park does not operate at ambient temperatures above 21° C (70° F). The following pinpoint test needs to be carried out when the ambient air temperature is lower than 21° C (70° F).
- P1 CHECK THE REAR WINDOW DEFROST OPERATION
- Start the vehicle.
- Activate the rear window defrost.
Does the rear window defrost operate?
Yes GO to P2. No REFER to: Glass, Frames and Mechanisms . - P2 CHECK THE HEATED WIPER PARK RELAY COIL CONTROL OF THE FCIM (FRONT CONTROLS INTERFACE MODULE)
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect BJB C1035C .
- Connect:
Lead 1 Measurement / Action Lead 2 C1035C-24
Battery Positive
- Start the vehicle.
- Activate the rear window defrost.
Does the test lamp illuminate when the rear window defrost is activated?
Yes GO to P5. No GO to P3. - P3 CHECK THE HEATED WIPER PARK RELAY COIL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect FCIM C2402B .
- Ignition ON.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2402B-12 Ground
Is any voltage present?
Yes REPAIR the circuit. No GO to P4. - P4 CHECK THE HEATED WIPER PARK RELAY COIL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to P8. No REPAIR the circuit. - P5 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE WINDSHIELD
- Ignition OFF.
- Connect BJB C1035C .
- Disconnect Windshield C1788 .
- Connect:
Lead 1 Measurement / Action Lead 2 C1788-2 Ground
- Start the vehicle.
- Activate the rear window defrost.
Does the test lamp illuminate when the rear window defrost is activated?
Yes GO to P6. No GO to P7. - P6 CHECK THE WINDSHIELD HEATED WIPER PARK GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Start the vehicle.
- Activate the rear window defrost.
Does the test lamp illuminate when the rear window defrost is activated?
Yes INSTALL a new windshield. No REPAIR the circuit. - P7 CHECK THE HEATED WIPER PARK RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect BJB C1035D .
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new BJB. No REPAIR the circuit. - P8 CHECK FOR CORRECT FCIM (FRONT CONTROLS INTERFACE MODULE) OPERATION
- Disconnect and inspect all the FCIM connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminal - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect all the FCIM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Reconnect all the BJB connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new FCIM. REFER to FRONT CONTROLS INTERFACE MODULE (FCIM) . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
