Compression Pressure, Checking

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Test Sequence

NOTE:

Engine oil temperature: minimum 30 °C (86 °F)

Battery voltage at least 12.7V

-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remover the ignition coils with the power output stages. Refer to IGNITION COILS WITH POWER OUTPUT STAGES, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the spark plugs using a Spark Plug Removal Tool 3122B.

-- Check the compression pressure using the Compression Tester Kit VAG1763 and Compression Tester Kit - Adapter 6 VAG1763/6.

NOTE:

For information on using the tester. Refer to the Operating Instructions.

-- Operate the starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.

Compression Pressure 

New Positive Pressure Wear Limit Positive Pressure Difference Between Cylinders Positive Pressure
11.0 to 14.0 bar (159.54 to 203.05 psi) 7.0 bar (101.52 psi) maximum 3.0 bar (43.5 psi)

-- Install spark plugs. Refer to SPARK PLUGS, REPLACING

-- Install the ignition coils with power output stages. Refer to IGNITION COILS WITH POWER OUTPUT STAGES, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- If there are any faults stored in the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory that occurring during testing, erase them on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester, Guided Functions  , Check DTC Memory  , then Generate Readiness Code  .
