Compression, Checking
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Spark Plug Removal Tool 3122 B
- Compression Tester V.A.G 1763
Procedure
- Engine oil temperature at least 30 °C (86 °F).
- Battery voltage at least 12.5 V.
-- Disconnect the injector valve connector -2-.
Ignore -1, 3, 4 and 5-.
-- Remove ignition coils. Refer to Removal and Installation .
-- Remove spark plugs with 3122 B.
-- Check compression pressure with the V.A.G 1763
-- Have a second technician press the accelerator pedal down all the way while operating the starter until the pressure increase is no longer displayed on the tester.
-- Repeat procedure on each cylinder.

Assembling
Assemble in reverse order of disassembling. Note the following:
-- Install spark plugs. Refer to SPARK PLUGS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING
-- Install ignition coils. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Faults are saved in Engine Control Module (ECM) when electrical connectors are disconnected:
-- Connect vehicle diagnosis, testing and information systemVAS 5051B.
-- Start "Guided Functions" operating mode.
-- Generate readiness code in ECM.
