Camshaft, Measuring Radial Clearance

Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Plastigage
Procedure
-- Remove the camshafts, refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Mark the assignment of the roller rocker lever for installation later.
-- Remove the roller rocker lever and place it on a clean surface.
-- Clean the bearing and the bearing journals.
-- Place Plastigage over entire width of bearing journal or into bearing.
- Plastigage must rest in center of bearing.
-- Reinstall the camshafts, mount the guide frame and tighten the bolts to the final tightening specification, refer to Figure. Be careful not to rotate the camshafts while doing so.
-- Remove the bearing bracket and camshafts.
-- Compare width of Plastigage with calibrated scale.
Radial clearance:
- For 24 mm diameter bearings: 0.024 to 0.066 mm
- For 36 mm diameter bearings: 0.032 to 0.078 mm.
