Left And Right Timing Chain Cover, Removing And Installing: Installing
Replace any bolts that were tightened with an additional turn.
Replace the O-rings.
Risk of contaminating the lubricating system.
- Cover open parts of engine.
-- Remove any old sealant from the surfaces.
Danger of eye injury.
- Wear protective eyewear.
-- Remove the sealant residue on the covers for the timing chain -1-, cylinder block and cylinder head with a rotating plastic brush.
-- Clean any oil or grease off the sealing surfaces.
Note the expiration date of the sealing compound.
-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: about 2 mm).
The lubrication system could be plugged with excess sealant.
- Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.
-- Apply the sealant bead -arrow- to the clean sealing surfaces on the left timing chain cover as shown in the illustration.
- Thickness of sealant bead: 2.5 mm.
Covers for timing chain must be installed within 5 minutes after applying sealant.
-- Position the left timing chain cover and tighten the bolts, refer to Figure.
-- Position the right timing chain cover and tighten the bolts, refer to Figure.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
-- Install the secondary air injection combination valve. For the left, refer to LEFT COMBINATION VALVE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING and for the right, refer to RIGHT COMBINATION VALVE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
