Camshaft Timing Chain, Removing From Camshafts: Removing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 Audi A6 Quattro, 2014 Audi A6 Quattro, 2013 Audi A6, and 2012 Audi A6. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:

There is a risk of injury if the radiator fan turns on by itself.

  • The coolant fan can come on even when the ignition is turned off, for example, caused by the heat still in the engine compartment.
NOTE:

The camshaft timing chains remain on the engine in the following description.

Even when only one cylinder head is worked on, the work procedure must nevertheless be performed on both cylinder banks.

-- Remove the left and right timing chain guards, refer to LEFT AND RIGHT TIMING CHAIN COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the left and right cylinder head cover, refer to CYLINDER HEAD COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the noise insulations, refer to FRONT NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the ribbed belt from the tensioner, refer to RIBBED BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, ACCESSORY RIBBED BELT .

-- Place the Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit SMN372500 under the engine.
