Compression Pressure, Checking

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Test conditions: 

-- Follow repair instructions. Refer to GENERAL INFORMATION .

-- Remove the air filter (engine cover). Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING .

-- Pull connectors off all fuel injectors.

-- Remove the ignition coils with power output stage. Refer to IGNITION COILS WITH POWER OUTPUT STAGES .

-- Remove spark plugs using Spark Plug Removal Tool 3122 B.

-- Check compression using Compression Tester Kit V.A.G 1763 and Adapter V.A.G 1381/5A.

NOTE: Using tester operating instructions.

-- Have a second technician operate the starter.

-- Operate starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.

Compression Pressure: 

New Bar Positive Pressure Wear Limit Bar Positive Pressure Difference Between Cylinders Bar Positive Pressure
9.0 to 13.0 8.0 max. 3.0

-- Erase the faults in the Engine Control Module (ECM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory that were stored when the connector was disconnected Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
