A - Emptying A Fuel Tank More Than 3/4 Full
If the fuel extractor still has a suction hose with a mounted tip, then replace that with one that has a tip that screws on.
-- Remove the tip -1- from the fuel extraction hose for the Fuel Extraction Unit VAS5190A.
-- Install the Fuel Extraction - Adapter 1 VAS5190/1 from the Fuel Extraction - Adapter Set VAS5190/10 on the suction hose.
-- Remove 1/3 of the rear seat, refer to REAR SEAT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the sealing flange cover -1-.
Vehicles through MY 2012:
-- Disconnect the connector -1- on the sealing flange.
-- Push the circlip -1- upward -arrow A- and squeeze the release -arrow B-.
Vehicles from MY 2013
-- Open the connector locking mechanism with the Elbow Assembly Tool T10118 and disconnect the connector -1- on the sealing flange.
-- Disconnect the connector -2- on the sealing flange.
-- Push the circlip -1- upward -arrow A- and squeeze the release -arrow B-.
Continuation for All Vehicles
There is a risk of injury because the fuel is under high pressure.
- To reduce pressure in fuel system, lay a clean cloth around the connector and carefully loosen connector.
-- Press the release button and disconnect the fuel line -2- from the sealing flange.
Ignore item -1-.
-- Connect the suction hose to the Fuel Extraction - Adapter 1 VAS5190/1 on the sealing flange supply connection.
-- Extract approximately 10 liters (10.5 quarts) of fuel.
-- Disconnect the Fuel Extraction - Adapter 1 VAS5190/1 on the sealing flange by pressing the release button.
-- Remove the Fuel Extraction - Adapter 1 VAS5190/1 on the suction hose and re-install the tip.
-- Remove locking ring using the Wrench - Fuel Sending Unit T10202.
-- Pull the sealing flange a little bit out of the fuel tank and slide the Fuel Extraction Unit VAS5190A into the fuel tank through the gap between the sealing flange and the installation opening.
-- Extract any remaining fuel through the opening for the fuel delivery unit.
-- Install the sealing flange for the fuel delivery unit, refer to FUEL DELIVERY UNIT/FUEL LEVEL SENSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
