Backrest Cover And Padding, Removing And Installing, Super Sport Seat: Removing

WARNING:

Follow all Safety Precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.

-- Remove the front seat. Refer to FRONT SEAT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, POWER .

-- Attach the front seat to the Engine/Transmission Holder - Seat Repair Fixture VAS6136. Refer to FRONT SEAT, MOUNTING ON FIXTURE FOR SEAT REPAIR .

Vehicles equipped with a mount for a DVD player:

DVD player removed.

-- Unclip the trim -2- for the connector -arrow-.

WARNING:

Danger of eye injury.

Wear protective eyewear.

-- Drill out the guides -1- and -3- for the DVD player using a 12 mm diameter drill.

CAUTION:

Danger of destroying the backrest cover and cushion.

The guides are held in the backrest frame by the retaining tabs -arrows-.
When removing, drill out only up to dimension -a- = 35 mm.

-- Remove backrest panel:

Two section backrest cover. Refer to BACKREST COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, TWO PIECE .
One section backrest cover. Refer to BACKREST COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, ONE PIECE .

-- Remove the front backrest. Refer to FRONT BACKREST, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, BACKREST AND SEAT PAN, RS BUCKET SEAT .

-- Disengage the lower retaining channels -5- and -6-.

-- Disengage the upper retaining channel -3-.

-- Disengage the side retaining strip -3- at the backrest frame trim catches -2-.

1 - Cover

WARNING:

Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.

-- Pull the cover as far forward as possible in the side airbag area in order to be able to remove side airbag.

-- Remove the side airbag. Refer to FRONT SIDE AIRBAG WITH IGNITER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the airbag from the pocket sewn into the cover and engage the airbag in the backrest frame.

-- Reach from the rear side of the backrest under the padding and find the release button -5-.

-- Press the release button in the direction of the -arrow-.

-- Hold the release button -5- down in this position.

-- Remove the padding with the headrest -1- upward from the backrest frame -3-.

NOTE:

A second technician is needed to remove the padding with the headrest from the backrest frame.

Equipment Versions with Lumbar Support:

-- Separate the padding from the Velcro fastener -3- on the lumbar support -2- otherwise the lumbar support will be damaged when removing the hooks -arrows-.
