Overview - Hydraulic Line, Reservoir, 6-Cylinder FSI, Without Dynamic Steering

The power steering pump is not designed to be serviced. If there are customer complaints, the cause must be determined using a pressure and leak test. If there is a malfunction, replace the power steering pump.

NOTE:

If power steering fluid is low in reservoir, check steering system for leaks.

If there are leaks in the area of the line connections, the lines/connections must first be inspected for leaks, tightened as necessary and wiped dry.

The power steering pump is delivered without oil. Before installing, fill pump with Hydraulic Fluid and turn pump by hand. Otherwise, the power steering pump may be noisy when operating or may even be damaged.

Tensioning Strap
- Attach to body. Refer to OVERVIEW - HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING, 6-CYLINDER FSI .
Reservoir
- Note installed position. Refer to OVERVIEW - HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING, 6-CYLINDER FSI .
- Installation position of hoses on the reservoir. Refer to HOSE LINES TO RESERVOIR, HYDRAULIC FLUID COOLER AND RETURN LINE INSTALLED POSITION .
Cap with Dip Stick
- Fluid Level, Checking. Refer to POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL, CHECKING .

- Remove and install with Hose Clip Pliers VAG1921

Wiring Bracket
- For securing the intake hose on the longitudinal member. Refer to OVERVIEW - HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING, 6-CYLINDER FSI .
Return Line
- From the power steering gear to the power steering fluid reservoir
  CAUTION:
  - Insert the return line completely when installing.
- Mounting on the subframe. Refer to OVERVIEW - HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING, 6-CYLINDER FSI .
- Note location on reservoir. Refer to HOSE LINES TO RESERVOIR, HYDRAULIC FLUID COOLER AND RETURN LINE INSTALLED POSITION .
Seal
- Always replace if removed
Power Steering Gear
- Allocate correct version.
- Removing and installing. Refer to HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING GEAR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Pressure Line
- From the power steering pump to the power steering gear; there are different versions, with and with a separating point.
  CAUTION:
  - Insert the pressure line completely when installing.
- Mounting on crossbrace. Refer to OVERVIEW - HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING, 6-CYLINDER FSI .
- Wiring connection installation location. Refer to OVERVIEW - HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING, 6-CYLINDER FSI .
Rubber Bushing
- 6 Nm

- A pressure line with a separating point does not have a union nut.
Pressure Line
- From the power steering pump to the power steering gear
  CAUTION:
  - Insert the pressure line completely when installing.
- Mounting on crossbrace. Refer to OVERVIEW - HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING, 6-CYLINDER FSI .
- Wiring connection installation location. Refer to OVERVIEW - HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING, 6-CYLINDER FSI .

Power Steering Pump
- Allocate correct version.
- Fill with Hydraulic Fluid before installing

- Removing and installing. Refer to OVERVIEW - POWER STEERING PUMP, 6-CYLINDER FSI, WITHOUT DYNAMIC STEERING .

Intake Hose
- Note location on reservoir. Refer to HOSE LINES TO RESERVOIR, HYDRAULIC FLUID COOLER AND RETURN LINE INSTALLED POSITION .
- Note power steering pump location. Refer to OVERVIEW - POWER STEERING PUMP, 6-CYLINDER FSI, WITHOUT DYNAMIC STEERING .
