Timing Chain For The Oil Pump Drive, Removing And Installing: Removing

Conditions

Engine removed
Engine and transmission disconnected
Drive plate removed
Oil pan removed
Sealing flange removed

-- Loosen chain sprocket bolt -arrow- approximately 1 turn. Counter hold at the vibration damper with the :T10172 when doing this.

-- Turn the engine on the vibration damper to the adjusting markings.

Milled drive chain sprocket tooth must align with bearing joint -arrow A-.
The marked hole -arrow B- must be aligned with the marking on the oil pump.

NOTE:

This position is reached at every fourth turn.

-- If the camshaft timing chain needs to be replaced, remove the camshaft timing chain. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- If the camshaft timing chain is not replaced, mark the position of the timing chain to the oil pump chain sprockets with a water resistant marker.

-- Remove chain tensioner for camshaft timing chain -arrow-.

-- Detach the chain tensioner with a 3 mm hex socket wrench -A-.

-- Remove the tensioner for the oil pump drive chain -arrows-.

-- Remove the chain sprocket bolt and then remove the chain sprocket and timing chain from the oil pump.
