Lower Control Arm, Removing And Installing: Removing

Vehicles With An Air Spring Shock Absorber

-- Activate the vehicle lift mode and place the vehicle on the lifting platform. Refer to VEHICLE LIFT MODE .

Continuation For All Vehicles

-- Loosen the wheel bolts.

-- Raise the vehicle.

-- Remove the wheel.

Vehicles With An Air Spring Shock Absorber

-- Fill the air spring shock absorber with the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

Continuation For All Vehicles

-- Remove the wheel housing liner. Refer to WHEEL HOUSING LINER . Attach the Tensioner Hooks (2 pc.):VW552 -1- on both sides of the vehicle in the upper opening of the wheel housing and on the upper control arm.

-- Slightly pretension the control arm so that the control arm ball stud is not damaged.

-- Unscrew the bolt -1- for the shock absorber -2- on the control arm.

-- Loosen the nut on the conical pin, but do not unscrew yet.

CAUTION:

To protect thread, screw nut on pin a few turns.

-- Press out the lower control arm and unscrew the nut.

Ball Joint Removal Tool:T10444

-- Remove the threaded connection -1-.

-- Remove the threaded connection -2-.

-- Lower the lower control arm in the direction of -arrow- and thread out of the wheel bearing housing.
