Damaged Rear Window, Removing

WARNING:

When removing a window, always wear protective eyewear and leather gloves.

-- Protect body and interior from glass splinters.

-- Remove glass pieces from adhesive material.

-- Disconnect rear window defroster and window antenna connectors.

-- Bond flange all around with fabric reinforced adhesive tape.

-- Cut through the adhesive sealing material (with glass residue) in the from window opening using Window Cutter:VAG1561A  and Blade Offset :VAG1561/10 

Preparations For Installing Rear Window 

NOTE:

When reusing the undamaged window, cut the rest of the adhesive material on the window and flange with the Window Cutter:VAG1561A  and Window Cutter - Scraper (2 pc.):VAG1561/8  so it is even, but do not remove it completely.

The remaining material acts as a base for the new adhesive to be applied.

CAUTION:
  • Keep the adhesive surface free of dirt and grease.
  • Cut back the adhesive surface shortly before installing.
  • Do not prime or use a cleaning solution on the adhesive surface.

With New Window 

-- Clean window all around in adhesive area using Cleaning Solution:D 009 401 04  .

CAUTION:
  • Ceramic application on window is not primer.
  • It must be primed before the application of adhesive sealing material!

-- Apply the Glass-/Paint Primer:D 009 200 02  as described as follows.

Applying Primer

-- Apply the glass/paint primer -3- to the adhesive surface on the glass -4- evenly and in a single stroke using the applicator -2-.

-- Beginning applying with saturated felt.

CAUTION:

Glass/paint primer conducts electricity and must not touch rear window defroster distributing wire.

Window Flange 

-- If the window flange was damaged, paint structure must be recreated. If necessary, perform corrosion protection measures. Refer to Surface technology/chemical materials.

-- First clean the repaired area with Cleaning Solution:D 009 401 04  and then apply the Glass And Paint Primer:D 009 200 02  .
