Power Steering Pump Delivery Pressure, Checking, 8-Cylinder FSI: Checking
-- Clamp off the evacuation hose -1- and return hose -2- using the :3094 .
- The :3094 must not be secured on the return hose -2- near the check valve area. Otherwise the check valve will be damaged.
- The check valve is located in the return hose -2- between the hose clamps -arrows-.
-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Position the :VAS6208 below to collect the hydraulic oil.
-- Remove the pressure line -4- on the crossbrace. Remove bolt -3-.
-- Loosen the union nut -2-. Counterhold at the hex head -1- while doing so.
-- Engage the tester -3- on the pressure line -1- using a hook -2-.
-- Mount the :VAG1402 as shown in illustration.
- Pressure line with separating point
- :VAG1402/6
- :VAG1402
- :VAG1402/6
- :VAG1402/3
-- Attach the :VAG1402 hoses to the open connections on the pressure hose as illustrated.
-- Make sure that lever on pressure gauge stands in position -2-.
-- Lower vehicle.
-- Remove the :3094 .
-- Start engine without giving gas.
-- Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock about 10 times.
-- Switch off engine and, if needed, fill hydraulic fluid in reservoir.
To Avoid Damage To Pump, Observe The Following:
Pressure gauge shut-off valve must not remained closed longer than 10 seconds during this test.
Start engine without giving gas and run at idle.
Read the pump pressure immediately after starting at idle speed (have it read by second technician, if necessary).
Because pressure falls over the course of the test, the highest pressure shown is the decisive measurement.
-- Now check delivery pressure.
-- Start the engine.
-- Close the shut-off valve to position -1- while the engine is idling and read the pressure (the lever must point away from pressure hose). Do not perform measurement longer than 10 seconds.
Delivery pressure specified value, vehicles without dynamic steering: 113 to 130 bar (1638.92 to 1885.49 psi)
Delivery pressure specified value, vehicles with dynamic steering: 117 to 131 bar (1696.94 to 1899.99 psi)
If the pressure is not at the specified value, replace the power steering pump. Refer to OVERVIEW - POWER STEERING PUMP, 8-CYLINDER FSI, WITH DYNAMIC STEERING or OVERVIEW - POWER STEERING PUMP, 8-CYLINDER FSI, WITHOUT DYNAMIC STEERING .
-- Switch off engine.
-- Remove the :VAG1402
Tightening Specifications. Refer to OVERVIEW - HYDRAULIC LINE, RESERVOIR, 8-CYLINDER FSI, WITHOUT DYNAMIC STEERING .
-- Note the line installation location when bolting the line connection. The markings -1 and 2- on the top of the line must align.
-- Secure the pressure line -4- on the crossbrace using the bolt -3-.
-- Check power steering fluid level. Refer to POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL, CHECKING .
-- Bleed the steering. Refer to STEERING, BLEEDING AFTER REPLACING .
-- Check all open line connections for leaks. Refer to STEERING, CHECKING FOR LEAKS .
-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
