Pinpoint Test B : U0101:87

- B1 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform a network test.
Does the TCM pass the network test?
Yes GO to B2 No DIAGNOSE no communication with the TCM. REFER to: Communications Network . - B2 RETRIEVE THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.
Is DTC U3003:16 or U3003:17 recorded?
Yes For DTC U3003:16, GO to Pinpoint Test K . For DTC U3003:17, GO to Pinpoint Test L No GO to B3 - B3 RETRIEVE THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the TCM self-test.
Are any TCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to: Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Charts and Pinpoint Tests - 3.5L EcoBoost (272kW/370PS) . No GO to B4 - B4 RECHECK THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) CONTINUOUS MEMORY DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (CMDTCS)NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during the PMI or the PMI may not have been performed.
- Clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.
Is DTC U0101:87 still present?
Yes GO to B5 No The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition. - B5 CHECK FOR DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) U0101:87 SET IN OTHER MODULES
- Clear all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).
Is DTC U0101:87 set in any other module?
Yes GO to B6 No GO to B7 - B6 CHECK FOR CORRECT TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect all TCM electrical connection(s) (harness side connectors and module terminals).
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Connect all TCM electrical connection(s). Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new TCM. REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. - B7 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect all BCM electrical connection(s) (harness side connectors and module terminals).
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Connect all BCM electrical connection(s). Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, BCM guided routine is not applicable for this vehicle and market. Replace the component that was faulted through service information diagnosis. No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
