Brake Pads, Removing And Installing, 1LM: Installing
If old brake pads are being replaced with new ones, then it is necessary to check the brake rotor thickness for wear. Pay attention to the wear specifications for the brake rotors.
-- Check the brake rotor for wear. Refer to PR NUMBER ALLOCATION - BRAKES for the wear specification.
-- Insert the upper brake pads
Four brake pads are installed per side. Only the inner, upper brake pad in the left brake caliper has a connection to the brake pad wear indicator.
-- Install the upper spring -12-.
-- Install the upper guide pin -10- into the brake caliper.
-- Install the lower brake pads.
-- Install the lower spring -12-.
-- Install the lower guide pin -10- into the brake caliper.
Make sure the brake pads are installed correctly inside the brake caliper.
After replacing the guide pin the respective spring under the guide pin must be pressed so that the spring is under tension. If the assembly is incorrect the brake pads do not remain in the correct position and the brake pads will not work correctly. So that the guide pin can be held in the brake caliper, it must be pushed in the brake caliper all the way.
-- Insert the wear indicator wire into the bracket on the left caliper.
-- Connect the brake pad wear indicator sensor connector to the top of the left inner brake pad.
-- Install The Wheels.
Wheel bolt tightening specification. Refer to WHEEL BOLT TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .
-- Check the brake fluid level and fill if necessary.
After the first drive, depress brake pedal firmly several times with vehicle stationary so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
Make sure the brakes are working correctly before driving the vehicle for the first time.
